Mayor Peduto: Sustainable City Development Lessons from Germany

PITTSBURGH, May 1, 2014 - On the eve of a weeklong trip to Germany to meet with business representatives and attend an international sustainable city development conference, new Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto was the keynote speaker at the spring meeting of the German American Business Circle at the Hofbrauhaus.

In his remarks and the question-and-answer session which followed, Peduto commented on the importance of improving local air quality; prospects for a direct flight between Germany and the Pittsburgh International Airport; and wastewater treatment technologies.

Peduto also addressed the City of Pittsburgh’s sister partnership with Dortmund, Germany, his close working relationship with Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald; and the goal of developing an effective light rail transportation system.

In noting the importance of Germany industry in southwestern Pennsylvania, he said that his upcoming travel to Germany would not be his last.

Cohen & Grigsby’s Susanne Cook provided the introduction for the mayor, while BKD partner David Bluemling made closing remarks.
